Pacific Lyric Association (PLA) is an independent Southern California opera company that presents fully-staged operas with orchestra, accessibly priced to the general public. Our programs include Opera Education, and Opera Internship Program. |
OUR MISSION
Our Mission is to present traditional productions of operas, ballets, operettas, and musicals in a manner that our local audiences can easily understand and provide emerging opera singers and orchestra players with an opportunity to perform on a professional stage. |
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE
The signature format of our opera productions includes a spoken narrative in English before each large scene. These narrative vignettes, performed by a professional actor, are designed to keep the audience engaged without being distracted by supertitles. This format has been successful in attracting younger audiences and newcomers. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, one of PLA’s primary objectives is providing musical and theatrical education and opportunities to the community. The internship program is available to young singers still working on their degree, or recent graduates. The transition from school into the professional opera world is not easy. PLA provides extra support and much needed professional training to young opera artists and opera industry professionals (set builders, stage managers, hair stylists, costume designers, etc.) PLA develops and provides teaching materials to 800+ school art/music/dance/theater teachers in San Diego County. |
