Welcome to the captivating world of the Pacific Lyric Association Opera

Welcome to the captivating world of the Pacific Lyric Association Opera, a gem nestled in San Diego, California.

Since its establishment in 2006, Pacific Lyric Association (PLA) has been dedicated to bringing the realm of traditional  operas and operettas to our community in a way that is accessible and affordable.

With our commitment to enriching San Diego community, and nurturing new generations of professional musicians, PLA Opera has become a shining star on the performing arts scene.
Our mission at PLA Opera is rooted in the belief that opera should be enjoyed by everyone, and we strive to break down any barriers that make this form of art seem intimidating, or exclusive.

To achieve this, we ensure that our ticket prices are reasonable, so that people of all backgrounds can embrace the magic of opera.

What sets PLA Opera apart is our dedication to making opera approachable for all audiences. Each performance is carefully structured with an English speaking narrator, who guides viewers through the intricacies of the plot.

This unique feature makes our productions suitable for individuals of all ages, whether they are opera enthusiasts, or newcomers, exploring opera art for the first time.

Education plays a major role in our organization.

We believe in making an impact by inviting teachers, students, families with children and Gold Star families to preview our opera productions at no cost. This incredible opportunity allows them to witness the culmination of our work, as we present our opera with an orchestra, decorations and stunning costumes. To further support initiatives, we provide all our attendees with a backstage tours and a special booklet “Teacher’s Guide”,  that not only explains the art of opera in general, but also delivers specific details about our current production.

Understanding the challenges faced by aspiring artists, PLA Opera has established an internship program. This remarkable initiative offers students, who are passionate about music, theater and voice, a chance to gain hands-on experience and take their first steps in the captivating world of opera production.

Moreover, our "Open Mic Pro" program is an outreach platform, where established and new-coming artists can showcase their talent, while refining their skills  in front of an enthusiastic live audience. This nurturing environment not only promotes growth, but also encourages valuable networking opportunities.

Pacific Lyric Association Opera is more than just an organization. PLA is an inclusive community that warmly welcomes all individuals, who share a profound passion for the enchantment that opera brings.

Join us as we celebrate the enduring art of opera, bringing its beauty, drama and emotion to audiences in San Diego and beyond.
