Pacific Lyric Association (PLA) is proud to announce the inaugural concert of its Youth Orchestra
Friday, February 18, 2022 8PM California Center for the Arts Escondido 340 N Escondido Blvd Escondido, CA 92025
PROGRAM Tchaikovsky's Overture Romeo and Juliet Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
Open to ages 14 to 28, the ensemble will focus on developing young musicians into professional-level players and preparing them for careers in major symphonies.
"The Youth Orchestra is a wonderful addition to our opera company, and fits in nicely with our Opera Internship Program and our Opera Education Program, both of which focus on educating and training today's youth in the genre of opera and classical music", said Justin Gray, the Executive Director of PLA.
Mayor Paul McNamara, who has long wanted a youth orchestra in Escondido, said, “This is one of the best Christmas presents I’ve ever received, and it’s not just me but the entire community. What a great addition to our city! One always wonders if their community has a future star in some area. But you'll never know if they don’t have the opportunity to develop. PLA’s initiative will help us discover and train those future stars. I can’t wait for the February 18th."
Small stipends are available for youth who successfully pass the audition and are invited to join the orchestra.
As part of their training, the young musicians will have the opportunity to attend master classes taught by some of the professional mentors associated with orchestra. Subjects will include conducting, percussion, strings, brass, and winds.
PLA is seeking sponsors to help pay for young musicians' stipends and to help defer the costs of allowing local school children the chance to attend this concert free.
